The Washington Courts Historical Society is guided by a mission which emphasizes educating the public about the role which the law, and legal institutions, have played in the history of Washington State through the active involvement of its membership:

The Washington Courts Historical Society is a membership organization whose purpose is to promote a greater public understanding of the significance of the law and legal institutions in our State’s history. It accomplishes this through the collection, preservation, and dissemination of written and oral history, significant artifacts, memorabilia and information related to the court and the legal profession of the State of Washington. This purpose is supported through encouraging our members to:

  • Assist the Society in cooperative projects with courts, bar associations, educational organizations, historical societies and government agencies to create their own law-related historical programs and exhibits
  • Contribute articles and reviews to professional and historical publications
  • Assist the Society to build a research guide to Washington legal history
  • Participate in preservation and restoration projects, including those to preserve courthouse buildings
  • Share with others their interest in, and enthusiasm for, Washington legal history.
