Historic Courthouse Rehabilitation Program

Through a $5M allocation from the 2005-2007 state capital budget, the Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation (DAHP) established the Historic County Courthouse Rehabilitation Grant Program, administered by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. Most of our historic county courthouses throughout the state will benefit from this program. The WCHS is working with the Washington Trust to explore ways in which our organization can participate in and support this effort.

Student Intern

Once again we will have the benefit of a student intern from Washington State University during either the upcoming fall or spring semester. This will be the third time that we have hosted an intern with the support of the Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service. The experience has been very positive for everyone involved, with the students conducting research and providing support for our programs.

Continuing Legal Education Program and Annual Meeting

The Washington Courts Historical Society will be sponsoring a Continuing Legal Education program on November 20, 2009. The CLE will also include a catered lunch and keynote speaker as well as our annual meeting. Our members always receive priority registration and discounted tuition.

New Book

The spring 2007 issue of Columbia Magazine, the Washington State Historical Society's quarterly journal, includes a chapter from author and history teacher, David Chapman’s unpublished manuscript, Cathedrals for the Common Man: The Courthouses of Washington State. Watch for more information about this meticulously researched book as the WCHS collaborates with Mr. Chapman on getting the book published.
